18th Sunday in Ordinary Time : Homily / Sermon

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be hungry. (John 6:35).

Priest:
Jesus, Lamb of God and Bread of life, calls us all to his supper: let us now confidently place our needs before the Father.

Reader:
Let us pray for the priests of our diocese;
may the Lord strengthen them in the Spirit to carry out his work.
Lord, hear us.

Let us pray for all who face persecution because of their faith in Jesus Christ:
may our prayers and practical support bring them comfort and encouragement.
Lord, hear us.

Let us pray for the sick, those who are known to us, and those who have no one to pray for them.
May their hunger for fullness of health be satisfied by the bread from heaven.
Lord, hear us.

Let us pray for those who have died, especially those who died in pain and distress,
in God’s great mercy may they enjoy the food that endures to eternal life.
Lord, hear us.

Let us commend ourselves and all God’s people living and dead to the intercession of our Blessed Lady as we say, Hail Mary.

We make our private petitions in silence.

Priest:
Heavenly Father, you sent down bread from heaven on your children in wilderness. Hear our prayers today, and send down your blessing on all who seek your assistance. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
