Bidding Prayers / Intercessions for the First Sunday in Lent (A)

Priest:
Our heavenly Father has mercy on us even though we are sinners; 
so we turn to him in our need.

Reader:

We pray that all members of the church will take the opportunity that Lent offers to renew their faith, to increase in holiness and prepare joyfully for the great feast of Easter. 
(pause) Lord in your mercy,

We pray that world leaders will enable all religions to be protected and kept safe from harm especially in the midst of social unrest and civil war. 
(pause) Lord in your mercy,

We pray for all the needy those sick in mind and body, those trying to free themselves from addictions, and those led astray by bad company.
(pause) Lord in your mercy,

Let us pray for ourselves that by our Lenten resolutions we may change our lives, guard against temptation and follow the Way who is Christ. 
(pause) Lord in your mercy,

We pray for the repose of the soul of (Joan Gallagher) and for the members of our families and parish who have gone before us. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Lord in your mercy

We ask for the intercession of Our Blessed Lady as we say - Hail Mary.

Now in the silence of our hearts we express our own needs.

grant that what we need we may obtain through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
