Advent Sunday : The Universal Prayer / Bidding Prayers / Intercessions / Prayer of the Faithful

Advent Sunday

The Priest introduces the prayers:

Brothers and sisters, as we prepare for the coming of Our Lord Jesus in this Advent season, let us earnestly ask his mercy, as we pray for the Church and for the world.

Reader:

For the Church, and all Christians,

that they may be more and more aware of their unique mission in the world, and so strive to serve mankind by reflecting Christ in all they say and do.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

For the peace of the world,

that those in charge of political affairs may always be conscious that true peace is based upon the dignity of man, whatever his race, colour or creed. Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

For the sick and those who care for them,

that the Lord Jesus may heal the sick, rid the world of hunger and protect us from all disasters.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

For those departed this life,

that when the Lord Jesus comes again, we may be reunited with them in his everlasting Kingdom.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We join our prayers with our Lady, as we say: Hail Mary...

Let us pray in silence to the Lord

The Priest concludes the prayers:

Father, you gave us your only Son to prepare us for your kingdom. May our lives be a daily preparation for the day when we see you as you are. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christ the King : The Universal Prayer / Bidding Prayers / Intercessions / Prayer of the Faithful

Bidding Prayers for the Feast of Christ the King

Priest:

As we acknowledge Christ our Lord and King, let us ask his to remember us in all our needs.

Reader:

As the Year of Mercy comes to an end, we pray that through the teaching of Pope Francis, the whole Church may be inspired to  live always in mercy, loving God and our neighbour.

Lord in your mercy,

For young Christians: that the whole Church may protect and encourage them,

teaching them the merciful love of God..

We pray in particular this weekend for our Diocesan Youth Services.

Lord in your mercy

For those suffering hardship and financial difficulties, the sick and housebound of our parish and all those whose worries seem insurmountable, that the Lord may remember them always and grant them comfort. Lord in your mercy

For those who have died. May God give them peace, sustain their families and friends, that Christ our Lord may at last welcome them into his Kingdom. Lord in your mercy

We ask Mary, Queen of Heaven, to remember us as we say, Hail Mary …

Let us pray silently for our own intentions.

Priest:

Father, you call us to dwell with you in the kingdom of your Son. Remember us always, that he may be our Lord and King for ever and ever. Amen.

33rd Sunday (Remembrance Sunday)

33rd Sunday (Remembrance Sunday)

The Priest says:

Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. As we give thanks today for those who gave their lives for freedom, in the service of their country, let us pray now for reconciliation and peace, that their sacrifice shall not have been in vain.

Reader:

We pray for the Church,

may the Catholic Church, which spans many nations and languages,

be a sign of the unity and peace which all mankind can achieve.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for the armed forces of this country,

may peace and reconciliation always be their aim,

and may they faithfully serve and protect the freedom of our land.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for the leaders of the nations,

for our Queen and her government, for the leaders of all nations: may they work for the reduction in the number of weapons by pursuing truth, justice, peace and the proper dignity of each individual.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for those who are sick and those who care for them,

may they receive comfort and relief from God in accordance with their needs.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

We pray for all who have died,

for all who have died as a result of war and violence; all who died as members of the armed forces or as civilians in the service of their country; for those who have died fighting for truth and justice; may they rest in peace with Christ and rise with him in glory.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

In silence, let us now pray to the Father for all our needs.

The priest concludes the prayers:

Father, source of forgiveness and salvation for all mankind, hear our prayers. By the prayers of the virgin Mary, may all those who died in wartime come to share eternal happiness with all your saints. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
