Bidding Prayers for Christmas Day
The Priest introduces the prayers:
My brothers and sisters, as we gather to worship the Christ-child, born tonight, let us trustingly pray to our heavenly Father.
Reader:
We pray for all Christians celebrating this great feast all over the world, in all climates and at all times as our planet turns.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
We pray for all areas of darkness where God's light is desperately needed to bring peace, understanding, sensitivity and compassion.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
We pray for all servicemen and woman currently deployed in operational environments, that they may be safe from harm to rejoice in Christ, the prince of peace.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
We pray for those [this night] who are hungry, cold or homeless; for all who are separated from their loved ones; all for whom the festivities of Christmas emphasise their isolation and misery.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
We pray for our homes, families, neighbours and friends; for all children and young babies. Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
We pray for all those who have died in faith, and for all who feel the pain of loss at this holy time.
Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.
Let us now pray quietly with Our blessed Lady, Mother of Christ our God.
Hail Mary .
In a moment of silence, we make our own prayers to God.
The Priest concludes the prayers:
Father, in thankfulness we praise you,
and ask you to accept these prayers
through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
